Amethyst
Amethyst is a macrocrystalline variant of the mineral quartz and occurs in various shades of purple. Amethyst is a very popular gemstone and has been used in jewelry for a long time.
Amethyst gets its color from a charge exchange between the elements oxygen (O2) and iron (Fe). The color of amethyst is named differently depending on how strong it is. 'Rose de France' is a pale, almost pinkish variety, while 'Siberian' means it has a deep purple color, which also varies when the stone is turned because the pleochroism of the material becomes more apparent. Pleochroism is an internal optical property where light absorption is different in different directions.
